Horror fans are certainly familiar with Edgar Wright’s cult classic horror-comedy Shaun of the Dead, as well as its leads Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Both actors have made a name for themselves since Wright’s Cornetto trilogy, with Pegg playing Montgomery Scott in the rebooted Star Trek films and Frost appearing in Snow White and the Huntsman. Now the duo are reuniting yet again as producers alongside Miles Ketley for an upcoming horror film recently acquired by Orion Studios.
The film, titled Svalta, initially came from Ketley’s production company Stolen Picture with Frost attached as a writer. The film centers around a family traveling to a remote Swedish island known as Svalta while being followed by a serial killer. Beyond this synopsis and the choice of directors- James Serafinowicz and Nat Saunders- not much else is known about the film, although it will likely be darker than Pegg and Frost’s previous collaborations.
Yet Orion President John Hegeman has insisted that Svalta will retain the same sensibilities as the comedian’s other projects. Hegeman even expressed his excitement for the film by stating “The story is scary, awesome and crazy, and their unique voice is perfect for this movie. We can’t wait to bring this to the big screen with them.”
Miles Ketley also discussed Hegeman and Orion Producer Dan Kagan’s approval of the project, stating that “We always said that everything we do has to come from left field and find something unexpected at its center and with this partnership with John and Dan and their amazing team — Svalta is the perfect project to do that.” Modern horror films tend to contain a lot of original projects and, with a creative team like Simon Pegg and Nick Frost attached, one can only expect a unique genre project.
