Everyone’s favorite reality competition judge has signed on to produce the upcoming Beatles biopic, A Life in the Day. The film will follow the band’s manager, Brian Epstein, and his journey from discovering the Beatles to making them the biggest band of all time. Having no prior experience, Epstein changed the culture of music forever by making the Beatles a worldwide sensation.
Sometimes referred to as the fifth Beatle, Epstein remained as their manager until his abrupt death at the young age of 32, reportedly due to a drug overdose. Beatlemania has previously been mined for the silver screen in efforts that include the bio Backbeat (1994) and recent coming of age film Nowhere Boy (2009). IM Global has optioned the script by Tony Gittelson, but hasn’t brought a director on board yet. Previously, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) were rumored to be playing Epstein and John Lennon, respectively, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Expect a confirmation on terms of casting once a director comes aboard.
Cowell previously produced the Britain’s Got Talent musical comedy One Chance starring James Corden (Into the Woods) as well as the One Direction documentary One Direction: This Is Us (2013). He has served as executive producer on shows like American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and The X-Factor.
