Following her appearance at a 2025 Star Wars Celebration panel dedicated to the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu, Sigourney Weaver gave an interview for IGN in which she further discussed her role in the film. Weaver had this to say about her still-unnamed character:
“She was wearing a rebel pilot uniform, and that’s how she came up. And now, of course, she’s still a pilot and is one of the people working to protect the New Republic. She’s actually out in the Outer Rim where there are vestiges of the Empire, so she needs someone like the Mandalorian and his faithful companion.”
Weaver also expanded later in the interview with her insights on the character of Grogu (commonly known as Baby Yoda)’s role in the story.
“I feel like Grogu was sort of transitioning from a little learning creature to someone who has real skills. And indeed, he is the apprentice now, and I felt that I could see a big difference between that in the series.”
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set for release on May 22nd, 2026. The film will be the first theatrical Star Wars movie in quite a long time, releasing nearly seven years since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. The film will be a feature-length follow-up to Season 3 of The Mandalorian, which was released on Disney+ in 2023.
