‘Shrek 5’ Update And Release Date Set

The fifth installment of the Shrek franchise is set to be released on July 1, 2026, according to a DreamWorks Animation announcement on several social media channels. According to Deadline reporting, the film has begun work and will star Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz. Walt Dohrn, known for his work on Trolls and as a writer on the second and third Shrek films, will be the Head of Story and director of the new installment. 

 

According to Deadline, the first the public heard of this project was from Murphy in an interview where he stated, “We started doing Shrek four or five months ago…I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year. We’ll finish it up.” He also said in this interview that Donkey, Murphey’s character, could likely be getting his own spinoff. 

 

Shrek has been celebrated as one of Dreamworks’ most successful franchises. The original movie won the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature and grossed more than $488 million worldwide according to Deadline. In total, all four Shrek films have earned more than $2.9 billion worldwide as well as started a Broadway production that was highly successful in its own right.
