In an interview with ComicBook.com on his latest film, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Zachary Levi discussed his enthusiasm towards his role in the DC Universe’s Shazam franchise: “I’m really proud of both films. I really think the second film was, in some respects, better than the first. And the first was really good. I’m really proud of both of them…I would love to be able to do more iterations of it. I would love to collaborate with Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern.”
2019’s first installment of Shazam! surpassed box office expectations, leading to the green light for a sequel titled Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The sequel was unfortunately released during a transition period for Warner Bros., so the studio has now opted to reboot its franchises with direction from co-CEOS of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran. The duo has recast several roles (such as Henry Cavill’s Superman), leaving the future of Levi’s role as Shazam uncertain.
Back in March, the Shazam star also spoke to ComicBook.com, commenting on James Gunn’s vision for the DC Universe: “It’s kind of a rolling reset, if you will…There’s a lot of things that were inherited that were already kind of well before Peter and James even got to the positions they’re in right now. There were lots of conversations about what’s going to move forward and what’s not…but how do the powers that be figure out how to chop this up and try to make it work moving forward?”
