Play Dirty stars Mark Wahlberg as Parker, an experienced thief whose latest heist catches the attention of the New York mob. In anticipation of its October 1 release on Prime Video, the movie began advance screening at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations last Monday. The film reunites Shane Black (director and co-writer) with Robert Downey Jr. (executive producer). The duo has previously worked together on Iron Man 3 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Downey Jr. was originally involved as an actor, but switched to his current off-screen role.
In addition to Wahlberg, the film stars Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta), Rosa Salazar (Parenthood), Keegan Michael-Key (Key & Peele), Chukwudi Iwuji (Peacemaker), Nat Wolff (Death Note), Thomas Jane (1922), and Tony Shalhoub (Monk). Black co-writes alongside Charles Mondry and Anthony Bagarozzi, who both wrote the screenplay for Roadhouse. The film is based on Parker, a fiction series written by Donald E. Westlake (under the pen name “Richard Stark”). Previous adaptations of Westlake’s novels have starred Jason Statham and Mel Gibson.
The film is produced by Jules Daly, p.g.a., Marc Toberoff, James W. Skotchdopole, p.g.a. In addition to Downey Jr., the film’s executive producers are Susan Downey, Mondry, and Bagarozzi.
