Seth Rogen Criticizes Hollywood Writers Who Use AI

According to Deadline, Seth Rogen (The Interview, This Is the End) expressed his opinion on writers who use AI. In an interview with Brut, Rogen and his wife Lauren Miller (Like Father, Superbad) were talking about their upcoming animated project Tangles. Watch the interview with Brut here.

He stated, “I don’t understand what it’s supposed to do. Every time I see a video on Instagram that’s like, ‘Hollywood is cooked,’ what follows is the most stupid dog shit I’ve ever seen in my life.”

“And if your instinct is to use AI and not go through that process, you shouldn’t be a writer. Because you’re not writing. Go do something else. And if you don’t want to go through the process, you shouldn’t be a writer. The idea of a tool that makes me write less is not appealing to me, because I like writing.”

Tangles is a film that centers around a woman who endures seeing her family’s impact after her mother gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Rogen further notes that his film does not include any artificial intelligence in any capacity.

“Not at all,” Rogen addresses, “It’s hand-drawn animation. Every frame has a human touch to it, which is great.”

Leah Nelson (Swiss Chalet: A Helping Hand, Precious Leader Woman) is directing the project. The writers include Nelson, Trev Renney (Highway Thru Hell, The Basement) and Sarah Leavitt (We Are Washington, A Total Write-Off!). The film stars Rogen, Pamela Adlon (Better Things, Tinker Bell) and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Malcolm in the Middle) . Rogen also produced the project. On Friday, Tangles received a ten-minute ovation after its premiere.
