See Tom Hardy as the Kray Twins In ‘Legend’ Trailer

Tom Hardy’s (Inception) latest acting role is playing twins, Ronald and Reginald Kray, in Brian Helgeland’s (42) Legend. American gangsters have graced the screen for years but this is one of the first to focus on some English bosses. The first trailer shows off Hardy’s performance as takes on both brothers.

Hardy is known for taking on difficult roles, and it’s not his first time playing a gangster. In Lawless Hardy played a bootlegger in the Depression-era South trying to outsmart the law. His most recent gangster role was in Netflix’s Peaky Blinders as Alfie Solomans. Set in post-WWI England, Solomans iss a London gangster, which may inform Hardy’s performance as Ronald and Reginald along with the accent.

The Krays were at the top of their game in the 1950s and 60s. Their gang, “The Firm,” ruled over the East End of London with the Krays becoming gangsters as well as club owners. The brothers were well known for their violence and quick tempers. Their crimes included robberies, arson, assault and murder. Both were eventually convicted.

Helgeland brings his latest crime film to the screen in the U.K. September 2015, while the U.S. release date hasn’t yet been set.
