One of the most grotesque films of the year, The Cannibal Club, is coming to the United States. The Brazilian horror hit will debut in the US via Uncork’d Entertainment. The Guto Parente–directed horror project garnered notoriety for its explicit nudity, disturbing violence, and yes – cannibalism.
The Cannibal Club tells the story of a wealthy couple living among the Brazilian elite. While they seem normal, the couple is secretly a member of an organization that serially seduces, murders, and then serves their working-class employees to their bourgeois friends. This may be a little on the nose but the film personifies the malicious powers that the Brazilian ruling class hold over hapless and impoverished working class people.
The Red Band trailer exhibits some explicit and provocative moments the film is built upon. Throughout the trailer, the camera juxtaposes scenes of sex, murder, and fine dining (presumably at the expense of their victims). As the camera flashes through each horrifying sequence, the trailer begins to swiftly meld each ingredient in The Cannibal Club’s provocative cocktail together; violence becomes eroticized and dining becomes malicious.
The satirical horror film will make its theatrical debut on March 1st before releasing On Demand on March 5th. You can view the Red Band trailer for The Cannibal Club below.
