Valentine’s Day 2017 just got a whole lot sexier. Universal released the first full length trailer for their franchise sequel Fifty Shades Darker, directed by James Foley. Following the tremendous success of 2015’s Fifty Shades of Grey, which grossed $570 million worldwide, the second installment looks to match the first film’s sex and intrigue factor.
Based on the novel series by E.L. James, and adapted for the screen by her husband, Darker follows heroine Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) as her relationship with BDSM-practicing Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) becomes more serious and pushes both of their emotional and sexual boundaries. Darker also looks like it will be a bit more plot driven, adding the danger of outside forces and past relationships to further challenge the couple.
The first footage offer audiences a glimpse at new cast members like Eric Johnson (TV’s The Knick) as Anastasia’s new boss, Kim Basinger (8 Mile) as an older woman from Christian’s sexual past, and Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows) as another one of his troubled ex-lovers. Other additions include Hugh Dancy (Hulu’s The Path) and Tyler Hoechlin (Everybody Wants Some!!) as author Boyce Fox.
