See Oscar-Winner Eddie Redmayne in his Next Transformative Role as ‘The Danish Girl’

 

Coming off his Oscar-winning performance as Stephen Hawkingin The Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne’s next major role will be as the famous transgender artist Einar Wegener – later Lili Elbe – in The Danish Girl, a film adapted from the David Ebershoff novel of the same name.

Redmayne has reunited with his Les Miserables director Tom Hooper for the projec,t which will follow the life and career of a transgender pioneer, who is also credited as receiving one of the first known gender-reassignment surgeries. The film will also be a portrait of the marriage between Elbe and wife Gerda Wegener – portrayed by Alicia Vikander (Anna Kerenina) – attempting to answer the question “what do you do when someone you love wants to change?” The film also stars Amber Heard (The Rum Diary) and Matthias Schoenhaerts (Rust and Bone).

The above photo – released by Working Title via Twitter – shows Redmayne like audiences have never seen him before. In an interview on the Oscars Red Carpet, Redmayne revealed that he is working again with his Theory movement director Alexandra Reynolds for this role, which he cited as “the most sensitive one” to date.
