It looks as though horror film will continue to dominate at the box office this year with Shut In, the new thriller out of Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp. Naomi Watts stars as a child psychologist continuing to deal with the tragic death of her husband while caring for their catatonic son. Living a life of solitude in New England, she takes on a new case (Jacob Trembaly, Room) who suddenly goes missing during a deadly snowstorm, leaving it up to her, and her dreams, to save him.
The film also stars Oliver Platt (Spider-Man 2) and Stranger Things (Netflix) breakout Charlie Heaton. The film was directed by Farren Blackburn (Netflix’s Daredevil) with a script by Christina Hodson.
This is Watts’s triumphant return to the genre after 2011’s Dream House and her breakout role in the popular US adaptation of The Ring in 2002. While Heaton is nearly now an old pro to the creepy and insidious, Tremblay will be shedding some of his golden child persona coming out of Room to sell this role (he is also starring in another horror this year, Before I Wake with Kate Bosworth).
See the film’s trailer below, which features Watts in her element as she trudges the line between illusion and reality while all those around her attempt to shake her resolve. Shut In will hit theaters on November 11.
