Through international partnerships and hirings, the Secuoya Content Group hopes to grow its brand, produce bigger and better content, and put Spain and the Spanish language on the map when it comes to discussing industry changing content.
According to a discussion with Deadline, although the company currently holds Netflix’s European Production Hub in its Madrid Content Studios, which houses 10 soundstages, an audiovisual university, housing, and is continuing to still grow, the Secuoya Group hopes to continue growing as a global studio rather than just a production company.
Secuoya Studios has recently been trying to prove themselves, as they have just released Zorro, an action-adventure series based on the character by American writer Johnston McCulley. Not only was the studio able to stream the show on Spanish television and Amazon Prime Video, it was also able to air its creations both in America and Latin America at the same time. It was internationally sold to 28 countries.
Secuoya now hopes to continue focusing on creating content and hopes that through partnerships with different companies, it can bring new Spanish speaking IPs to mass audiences, especially English speaking audiences.
One of the companies that has teamed up with them is Rubicon Global Media. With this partnership, Secuoya will be funding certain media projects, dipping its feet into English productions. One of the first projects that is currently in production is Prey Before You Eat, a Spanish and English speaking drama starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
In order to push their plans for bigger and better content, Secuoya has been investing millions of dollars, not only in content, but also into some of the biggest personnel in the Spanish industry. One of these individuals is David Martinez, who was responsible for an increase in high-end Spanish television drama.
The company will have different sections focusing on certain content and services, each with an executive running the area. Some of the content sections will include premium series, long format series, features and unscripted media.
When it comes to film, the studio hopes to create five to eight films a year. Some of these films include El Director, which is being co-produced with Beta Fiction Spain, Fremantle, and Play Time.
Even with this ambition to produce new content, the company will still provide production services to studios like Netflix with their content studio. They also hope to expand these sorts of content studios to different countries around the world.
