According to Sebastian Stan’s stunt double, John Nania, Mark Hamill actively supports the popular fan casting of Sebastian Stan taking over the role of Luke Skywalker. In an interview for Video creator CantinaTalk, Nania states that Hamill has had conversations with Sebastian Stan about Stan taking over the role. Here’s Nania’s full explanation:
“Do you know how many conversations he and I have had about this? Literally there was a moment that I’m, like, I’m sure you’ve seen the picture of you as Luke Skywalker. He then told me… Mark and I have actually talked about this. Not anything official on Disney’s level of Star Wars, but I guess Mark Hamill’s been, like, he’s a fantastic actor, let him do it. But then Sebastian being as awesome as he is, he’s like, Mark is still doing the job. I don’t wanna take the job from him and he’s still working, you’re not gonna beat the original. But then this other side to it is, like, they’re not calling. I hear it, I’d love to do it.”
The fan casting of Sebastian Stan as Luke Skywalker has been popular online for quite some time, going as far back as 2021, not long after the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, where the divisive decision was made to bring back Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker using de-aging VFX. And while no official announcement has been made regarding Sebastian Stan taking over the role of Luke Skywalker, fans will be glad to hear that not only does Mark Hamill support the fan casting, but that conversations have allegedly been made about the casting between Sebastian Stan and Mark Hamill.
