James Wan’s upcoming take on the classic film Creature From The Black Lagoon has steadily begun to build up steam following its confirmation. Most recently, it was confirmed that Sean Tretta will be writing the script for the film.
Deadline was one of the earliest sources to break the news.
The original Creature From The Black Lagoon hit theaters 70 years ago, and since then cemented itself as a cinematic icon alongside the likes of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man.
The film saw a group of scientists travel to a lagoon in the Amazon in hopes of making a discovery. But the scientists make a bigger discovery than they ever imagined, forcing them to stand off against a creature never seen by a human before.
Collider reports that originally, a plot treatment was made by Rafael Jordan, Bryan Coyne, and Wan himself. The final script will be built around that treatment.
In the past, most of Tretta’s work has been bound to the world of television. He wrote several episodes of Star Trek: Picard, and even a majority of episodes of 12 Monkeys. However, Collider also notes that he’s no stranger to horror, with many of his earlier projects being based within the genre.
