Screen Gems is putting the finishing touches on its cast for the upcoming supernatural horror film Shrine, which has entered production and is currently being filmed in Massachusetts.
The final add-ons to this Jeffrey Dean Morgan-led movie will be Katie Aselton of The Freebie and The League, William Sadler (Bill & Ted Face the Music), Diogo Morgado (Son of God, The Killer Cricket Brown), Marina Mazepa, Christine Adams, Bates Wilde, and Cary Elwes (coming off the heels of Stranger Things), according to Deadline. The acquisition of Aselton follows the departure of Jordana Brewster, who was initially supposed to star alongside Morgan but left the film but due scheduling obstacles.
Evan Spiliotopoulos will be directing the film, which is based on James Herbert’s critically-acclaimed novel of the same name. Shine centers around a shunned journalist, portrayed by Morgan, who encounters a myriad of divine miracles within a small New England town that has been influenced by the spirit of the Virgin Mary. The writer utilizes these miracles to revive his sunken career, only to discover later on that they have a darker meaning. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert of Ghost House Pictures will be tasked with producing the film.
