In response to President Donald Trump’s announced tariff plan, which proposes a 100% tariff on all foreign-produced, filmed, and distributed projects, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland released the following statement:
SAG-AFTRA supports efforts to increase movie, television and streaming production in the United States. We will continue to advocate for policies that strengthen our competitive position, accelerate economic growth and create good middle class jobs for American workers.
We look forward to learning more about the specifics of the plan announced by the President and to advancing a dialogue to achieve our common goals.
It appears that the Screen Actors Guild, or SAG-AFTRA, is in full favor and support of the plan to bring industry jobs home to the United States. Though in full support of the act to benefit American workers and society, it is still early to see how such a tariff plan could immediately or eventually affect the entertainment industry. SAG-AFTRA currently represents approximately 160,000 actors and other media performers and workers.
