Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have expressed their hopes for future Scream projects. Even if they don’t get to participate in them, they still hope that the franchise will continue.
During an interview with Deadline, Bettinelli-Olpin explained that they want to be watching Scream movies whether [they’re] involved or not for the rest of [their] lives.” Gillet added that they’re glad the franchise is back and running. Aside from these comments, the future of Scream is out of their hands for the time being.
Scream VI will take its characters to New York City, where they will face off against a new Ghostface killer in an all-new setting. Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter for and creator of the Scream franchise, admitted that he had some second thoughts about the setting, but he changed their mind when he saw what they were doing. “I didn’t realize how scary New York City can be,” Williamson explained, “and then you go back and say, ‘Well, I used to live here.’” With crowded spaces where people can disappear into the crowd to isolated areas where others are helpless, the directors show off how terrifying the city is to newcomers. To Williamson, Bettinelli, and Gillett have “milked it and…managed to figure out how to make it really scary.”
Scream VI is set to release this Friday, March 10th.
