Scott Spiegel, an important part of the horror world, has passed away at the age of 67. Spiegel grew up in Michigan and worked on some amazing projects with his friends throughout his lifetime. In 1987, he co-wrote Evil Dead II with Sam Raimi. Spiegel also directed a cult classic of his own, titled Intruder. From there, he went on to work with Eli Roth on the Hostel franchise, even directing Hostel: Part III.
Outside of the horror genre, Spiegel also left a mark. He wrote Clint Eastwood’s The Rookie and even appeared in two Spider-Man movies as well as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Speaking about Spiegel, Raimi said the following:
“The moment the teacher was out of the room, Scott would stand up and precisely imitate their voice and mannerisms, cracking up the class. More than anything, he wanted to make people laugh. And he was so good at doing it… I remember that every Saturday, before shooting a Super 8 together, he first had to finish his work at Walnut Lake market, stocking shelves to pay his family’s bills.”
Spiegel is survived by his two brothers and his niece. May he rest in peace.
