Director Rusty Cundieff is set to direct the film 57 Seconds, based on the story written by British author E. C. Tubb. The film was picked up by the Highland Film Group and will be launching at Berlin’s virtual European Film Market.
The film is written by Macon Blair, director of Netflix’s I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Josh Hutcherson from The Hunger Games and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman are set to lead the film.
57 Seconds follows the story of a tech blogger Franklin Fausti (Hutcherson) who lands an interview with a visionary tech mogul Anton Burrell (Freeman) that could change his career. After sabotaging an attack against the celebrated tech guru, Franklin finds a mysterious ring that Burrell has dropped and soon discovers that the piece allows you to travel 57 seconds into the past. With Burrell’s support and driven by revenge Franklin uses the ring to take down the pharmaceutical company that killed his sister. Soon enough, he gets entangled in a haunting and brutal chain of events with much more than his own life at stake.
“I am beyond thrilled to have the considerable talents of Morgan Freeman and Josh Hutcherson as contributors to our time-travel thriller, 57 Seconds,” said Cundieff, best known for his horror-comedy anthology films Tales from the Hood, Tales from the Hood 2, and Tales from the Hood 3, alongside Sundance-premiering mockumentary Fear of a Black Hat.
Principal photography for 57 Seconds is set to begin in Lousiana in April of this year.
