A new science fiction film in the works from HanWay Films titled Morning.
The concept of the film revolves around humanity’s relationship to sleep and dreams. The film’s sci-fi elements are an artificial sun that puts Earth in a state of perpetual daylight, as well as a pill that causes humans to stay awake without ever growing tired. Bedtime is a relic of the past in the world of Morning, and the film is set to explore conflicts present in such a world.
Deadline has exclusively learned the details about the film’s plot. The conflict of the film revolves around rebellion as this sleepless world will see certain rebels fighting for the right to sleep and dream. Among these rebels is Danny, played by Noah Jupe, who grew up in this sleepless world. Danny’s mother, Cathy, played by Laura Dern, was a strong supporter of the technology that led to the sleepless world but will face an ideological dilemma after seeing what she once supported affect her son.
Benedict Cumberbatch will play Danny’s father, Frank. It is already known that Cumberbatch’s character will die in the film, affecting the wife and son he leaves behind.
Laura Dern is best known for her Jurassic Park and Marriage Story roles. Benedict Cumberbatch is best known as Doctor Strange in the MCU and his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock. These two stars will draw a larger audience to this film. Noah Jupe is best known for his role in A Quiet Place.
The film will be directed by Justin Kurzel, known for Assassin’s Creed and Macbeth.
Morning serves as a new film in the science-fiction genre and is not based on pre-existing characters or worlds. The science-fiction genre often brings to mind big-budget action blockbusters, such as the Star Wars films. However, Morning seems to deviate from recent science-fiction trends to tell a more grounded story about a family reacting to social change.
