2026 continues to prove to be lucrative for horror films, with another scary movie making the top of the charts. Scary movie drummed up 55 million for its opening premiere, continuing to entertain audiences with both kills and funny thrills.
In second place came the much anticipated Masters of the Universe, with He-Man debuting at the box office with a light 29.3 million compared to its 200 million dollar budget. Backrooms dropped down to third place for its second weekend, earning 25.9 million as the film helmed by 20 year old Kane Parsons continues to impress.
In its fourth week, Obsession took fourth place with 25.6 million just trailing behind the Backrooms. The film has officially crossed the 200 million dollar mark worldwide, well on its way to being the most profitable low-budget film in history with its budget of just 750k. Fifth place went to a surprising contender in the Amazing Digital Circus, which was a Fathom event of episode 8 and 9, the last episodes, of YouTube indie animation series The Amazing Digital Circus.
Mandalorian and Grogu drops down to sixth place with only 10 million for its third weekend. The film has quickly become one of the worst performing Star Wars films, unable to maintain its initial healthy start from its premiere and having little buzz in the media. Michael came in lucky number seventh with 7.7 million in its seventh week, officially becoming the highest grossing film in Lionsgate’s history with $898 million worldwide.
The bottom of the top 10 was rounded out by The Breadwinner in its second week with 3.4 million, Pressure with 3 million in its second week, and The Devil Wears Prada 2 at 2.8 million in it’s sixth week.
