The Wayans Brothers gave us another piece of news related to the Scary Movie reboot. The Scary Movie franchise began in 2000, spoofing a selection of recent (at the time) and iconic horror films, such as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Halloween, The Shining, and a couple of non-horror films. Four more sequels followed, and in 2024, the Wayans Brothers confirmed a reboot was in development.
Though production has not started yet, Marlon Wayans shared information about the release date on his Instagram page with the caption “Mark your calendars…” The post announces the reboot film is set to release on June 12, 2026. Scary Movie 5 was released in 2013, marking a 13-year gap between the two films.
Based on the release date, we can assume that filming for the reboot will likely start early this year. And with this news, casting news might follow soon. There’s been some speculation about the original stars such as Anna Faris and Regina Hall returning, but the only confirmed character so far is the hapless Ghostface. The original actor Dave Sheridan hinted the movie will follow the same legacy structure as 2022’s Scream. The Wayans Brothers could also decide to enlist a whole new generation of actors for this reboot.
With more news that comes out about the reboot, it will generate more hype, especially with comedic kings such as the Wayans Brothers at the helm.
