‘Scary Movie’ Reboot Pushes Release Date Forward By 1 Week

Still from 'Scary Movie'

The Wayans Brothers’ long awaited return to the Scary Movie franchise has just received exciting news. The parody film, which sees the return of franchise originators Marlon and Shawn Wayans as well as stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall, will now release in theaters a week early. The sixth entry in the franchise, simply titled Scary Movie in satire of legacy horror sequels of the same fashion (Halloween, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer), will now release June 5th, 2026.

Scary Movie had debuted its first trailer in front of Scream 7 last weekend before dropping online this Monday. The Paramount Pictures/Miramax film will now coincide with the release of Amazon MGM’s Masters of the Universe adaptation. The original release date, June 12th, will still see the release of Stephen Spielberg’s extraterrestrial film Disclosure Day.

Writer, producer, and star Marlon Wayans took to Instagram to share the news in a video post, stating:

“We are currently in the edit for Scary Movie. The bad news is, we’re no longer going to be releasing on June 12. The good news is, due to the overwhelming response and the worldwide excitement, we are releasing a week earlier. That’s right: June 5th is the new date for Scary Movie! We’re starting off the summer with a bang and a laugh fest.”

The film comes from a screenplay by Marlon and Shawn Wayans, along with Keenan Ivory Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. Michael Tiddes helms the project as director, and the film also will co-star Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, Gregg Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliot, and Heidi Gardner.

As observed in the trailer, Scary Movie is set to satirize a slate of modern horror movies including Scream (2022), Scream VI, Halloween (2018), Sinners, Weapons, and The Substance among others. Watch the official trailer below.
