It seems that the much-anticipated Saw XI has been delayed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, no progress has been made on the film since a draft was turned in during Spring of 2024. Writing partners Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan were responsible for this draft, yet according to Melton, “We haven’t heard anything since May.”
This is sad news for fans of the franchise, especially after Saw X, which many people adored. However, while Saw X is the most recent installment, the story may be more like Saw VI, in which the infamous Jigsaw killer target members of an insurance company.
According to Melton:
Saw XI may or may not be made, but we have a very timely story in it, and I hope it gets made just because of that. It taps into the same themes of Saw VI, where you’re a citizen, you feel angry and frustrated with something, you feel like you can’t do anything, and John Kramer’s going to do it.
This statement is very concerning, because while a delay has been confirmed, this indicates that the writers don’t even know if it will get made, period. All we can do is hope that Lionsgate, the company responsible for the Saw franchise, comes through.
