A new film from Sanjay Leela Bhansali was announced today via Instagram. The film, Love & War, is slated for a Christmas 2025 release and is billed by Bhansali Productions as an “epic saga.” Real-life couple, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, are set to star alongside Vicky Kaushal. Any other details about the film are yet to come.
All three actors cast so far are coming off an impressive year. Kapoor starred in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, and Bhatt was seen in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur kii Prem Kahaani. Both films were box office successes and earned a spot on India’s Top 10 list for the year. Kaushal starred in Rajkumar Hirani’s illegal immigration comedy, Dunki, and had critical success in Meghna Gulzar’s military biopic, Sam Bahadur.
Kapoor and Bhatt are familiar with Bhansali’s directorial style. Kapoor starred in Bhansali’s 2007 romance, Saawariya, which was based on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novella, White Nights. Bhatt played the lead in his 2022 work, Gangubi Kathiawadi. The couple’s on-screen chemistry was evident, under the direction of Ayan Mukerji, in the first installment of Disney’s sci-fi superhero franchise, Brahmastra.
Kaushal took to Instagram for the announcement saying, “An eternal cinema dream has come true.” Bhatt posted the same promotional image with a heart emoji.
Bhansali has an exciting couple of years ahead of him with Love & War’s release in 2025, and his Netflix series, Heeramandi, due this year. The series is a dramatic period piece set in colonial and undivided India, and will follow three generations of courtesans.
