The San Sebastian Film Festival, set to start on Sept. 22, has announced that several more films will be added to its competition lineup. Six new movies will compete for the festival’s highest honor: the Golden Shell Award.
The new movies are listed below:
– Chung xing (A Journey in Spring)
The debut film of Taiwanese filmmakers Tzu-Hui Peng and Ping-Wen Wang depicts a man on his journey of grief after his wife’s death.
– Fingernails
“Following the critically acclaimed Apples, which was selected for Telluride, Toronto, and Venice, director Christos Nikou now showcases actors Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed, Jeremy Allen White, Luke Wilson, and Annie Murphy in his second movie and first English-language film, Fingernails, a thought-provoking romantic drama about an institution that tests the presence of romantic love between couples,” San Sebastian said of the film
– Great Absence
Kei Chikaura’s sophomore film shows a young actor reconnecting with his father after the disappearance of his second wife.
– Kalak
Swedish director Isabella Eklöf’s sophomore film depicts a Danish nurse who moves to Greenland.
– Le successeur (The Successor)
Xavier Legrand’s film tells the story of a designer who uncovers a secret in his family home when his father dies.
– The Royal Hotel
Australian director Kitty Green’s second film portrays two backpackers (Julia Garner and Jessica Henwick) who begin working at a pub in the Australian Outback.
