Samuel L. Jackson joins New ‘Saw’ Reboot from Chris Rock

It was recently announced that the hit Horror franchise Saw is getting the reboot treatment with new film in the near future. This time with famous comedian Chris Rock both starring and even co-writing it. The film will have some of the same crew from the previous movies including veteran Saw director Darren Lynn Bousman and will add some more new faces to the franchise outside of just Chris Rock. Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols were also announced as part of the cast along with possibly the biggest name to be attached to the Saw franchise, Samuel L. Jackson.

It was announced that Samuel L. Jackson will be a part of this new upcoming Saw revival alongside Rock. Chris Rock will be playing a detective investigating a few crimes and Jackson has been cast as the role of Rock’s father. Obviously Jackson will potentially add a bit more star power and budget to Saw which is usually known for it’s cheap budgets, but will balance out with a more recognizable name attached to this film.

Jackson is known for being part of many different franchises including Star Wars, The Avengers, and The Incredibles. Anytime he’s in a film, especially a franchise film, there is a good amount of attention for it. Lionsgate’s chairman expressed a lot of excitement with Jackson coming on to project. He exclaimed, “We think Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock along with Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols make this film completely special in the Saw canon and we can’t wait to unleash this unexpected and sinister new story on fans of this franchise. This is next level of Saw on full tilt.” If nothing else, this new film will be a fun collaboration between Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, even if it is a film that was an unexpected choice for them to star in.

The Saw Reboot is set for release on October 23rd, 2020.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
