Sam Worthington To Play The Lead In ‘The Shack’

Sam Worthington (Avatar) has snagged the title role in the film adaptation of The Shack, according to Variety. The film is based on William Paul Young’s novel The Shack and co-stars Octavia Spencer (The Help).

Worthington is most well known for his action roles so The Shack could be a new challenge for him. His breakout role was in Avatar playing an injured marine who gets a second chance through an alien body. Some of Worthington’s other roles include Clash Of The Titans and Terminator: Salvation. On the other hand, Worthington has done several independent films with a more dramatic aspect. Recently he was in Jennifer Aniston’s Cake as well as Last Night and The Debt.

The Shack was first published in 2007 and became a huge hit. The story follows a father (Worthington) who loses his youngest daughter while on vacation. She is abducted and the police find evidence of her death in an abandoned shed. Four years later, the father receives a note, supposedly from God, telling him to return back to the shed.

The Shack doesn’t have a release date at this time.
