We all know that Sam Rockwell can portray a multitude of characters, and he is no stranger to being the “bad guy” type in a film. In fact, he won his first Academy Award for playing Dixon in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, a guy who could be less than lovable, to put it lightly.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Rockwell will be furthering his villainous acting chops in What We Do in the Shadows director Taika Waititi’s upcoming film, Jojo Rabbit.
The film is set during World War II and follows a young boy named Jojo who wants to join Hitler Youth. This must secretly be the chagrin of his mother, who is hiding a young Jewish girl in her attic and cannot let anyone know that she works against the Germans. Strangely, this young boy’s imaginary friend is not too typical. Instead, he’s Adolf Hitler (the role of which will be performed by Waititi).
Rockwell will be joining the likes of Scarlett Johannson who is set to act as the young Jojo’s mom. Rockwell’s role isn’t pleasant, as he will act as a Nazi Captain.
Waititi is heavily involved in the conception of the film. Not only will he perform, but he penned the script and will helm the film from the director’s chair. To underscore his duties even more, he will also serve as one of the film’s producers. Needless to say, this is probably not the movie that Thor: Ragnarok fans expected him to make next.
