It won’t be just another walk in the park for him this time. Sam Neill has officially boarded the next installment in the Monsterverse, the as of yet untitled Godzilla X Kong follow up.
Across his vast career, Neill has appeared in a wide variety of films. From Event Horizon to The Hunt For Red October, and even a brief appearance in Thor: Ragnarok, Niell has also dabbled in writing and directing. One of his credits behind the camera is 1995’s Cinema Of Unease: A Personal Journey By Sam Neill, which he co-directed, co-wrote, and narrated.
However, Neill’s most recognizable appearance is that of the main lead of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park as Dr. Alan Grant. A paleontologist brought to Jurassic Park by John Hammond, Grant gets a glimpse all too close at the dinosaurs he’s spent his life studying, forcing him to take care of two young children as they make their way through the park to find safety. Neill would return to the role of Dr. Grant two more times; once in 2001 for Jurassic Park III, and then once again in 2022 for Jurassic World: Dominion.
The last film in the Monsterverse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, saw Godzilla and Kong reluctantly team up to take on an ancient threat out of the Hollow Earth that threatens both Kong’s reign, as well as Godzilla’s. While it is known that the sequel will also split the billing between Godzilla and Kong once again as they face off against a new common enemy, not much else is known about story specifics at this point in production.
Hollywood Reporter notes that Neill is not the first to be brought on to the cast. Already on board are Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, and, in a reprisal from The New Empire, Dan Stevens.
