According to an announcement from SAG-AFTRA’s official Instagram account, the CEOs of the AMPTP have walked out of their discussions for a new contract. The union claims that AMPTP offered a shockingly worthless offer compared to the one made earlier in the strike.

On October 2nd, both parties arranged talks about the new deal, starting by talking about revenue sharing. SAG-AFTRA stated that CEOs were not budging regarding the proposed revenue sharing, even after SAG-AFTRA changed it to cost less than 57¢ per streaming subscriber. Instead, the CEOs “intentionally misrepresented to the press the cost of the above proposal – overstating it by 60%.”
Additionally, AMPTP made promises to honor the consent needed for AI replication of an actor’s likeness. However, SAG-AFTRA has claimed that the studio heads have used bully tactics to demand this permission on a performer’s first performance day. Through this consent, the studio would be free to use an actor’s digital likeness for their needs, even if the actual performer would disapprove of how their image is used.
In their statement, SAG-AFTRA decries the AMPTP for its rejection and for misleading both the press and the former’s members. However, they have announced that they will continue to strike and encouraged other industry members to stand by them in their efforts. “We have sacrificed too much to capitulate to their stonewalling and greed,” their statement reads. “We stand ready and united to negotiate today, tomorrow, and every day.”
