Yesterday it was announced that Fox Searchlight has been circling the rights to Sacha Baron Cohen’s satirical comedy Greed. The film is to be directed by Michael Winterbottom, with Melissa Parmenter producing. The film with be produced under the UK banner of Revolution Films.
According to Deadline, Greed will be like most of Cohen’s other films, but this time taking a jab at the super-rich moguls of the world with countless offshore bank accounts. While most details are being kept quiet, we do know Cohen will be playing the “cut-throat retail billionaire.”
Winterbottom is quite familiar with the subject, having directed Russell Brand’s The Emperor’s New Clothes. In this, Winterbottom examined the constant growing gap between economic classes and the corrupt bankers who are rewarded, while ordinary families fall apart.
Hopefully, Cohen and Winterbottom’s satirical take garners the attention the subject deserves.
