According to a report from Deadline, rapper and actor RZA will join the cast of Mr. Right as a gunman named Shotgun Steve. He will appear alongside Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) and Sam Rockwell (The Way Way Back) in the lead roles. Paco Cabezas (Neon Flesh) will direct, while Max Landis (Chronicle) wrote the script. The film is scheduled for a 2015 release.
Kendrick has the role of a woman unlucky in love who eventually falls for Rockwell’s character. He seems like the perfect boyfriend… until his past as a hitman is revealed. RZA’s Steve comes from a rival gang, presumably out for revenge against Rockwell. As we have previously mentioned, this plot feels like very well-trodden ground and it is difficult to predict how the final product will turn out (fingers crossed for an interesting execution of the story).
RZA has a similarly inconsistent track record with films. His score for Kill Bill got nominated for a BAFTA, though his 2012 directorial debut Man With the Iron Fists failed to impress critics or audiences. More recently he appeared in G.I. Joe 2 and Brick Mansions. In addition to Mr. Right, he is also currently working on a sequel to Iron Fists.
