Ryan Reynolds has been a busy man for the last decade and doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon, as the ‘Deadpool’ star lines up another movie. After a big 2019 with Detective Pikachu and 6 Underground, Reynold’s now has three upcoming projects with The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, The Croods 2, and now a time travel adventure movie from director Shawn Levy.
The project, which is still without a title, has Reynolds traveling back in time to meet his 13-year-old self and encountering his own, now deceased, father on his adventure. The script, based off a spec script by T.S. Nowlin, is now being written by Jonathan Trooper, the co-creator and executive producer of the Cinemax television series Banshee.
Levy and Reynolds previously worked together on the action-comedy Free Guy, a movie about a man who realizes he’s an NPC living inside an open-world video game. While Free Guy has been pushed back to December because of the coronavirus pandemic, Skydance Media, the studio behind both movies, is doubling-down on the pairing in hopes of creating some holiday box office magic.
This comes off of a rather disastrous fiscal year for the studio, as 2019 saw the release of two two major box office bombs, Gemini Man and Terminator: Dark Fate, which lost millions of dollars for the usually reliable studio.
