Ryan Reynolds, star of Two Guys, A Girl, And A Pizza Place, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder, and Apple TV’s Spirited, admits that he wrote a Deadpool Christmas movie. In an interview with Big Issue, Reynolds revealed that he worked on the potential film with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who co-wrote 2016’s Deadpool.
“I would love to see a song-and-dance number in a Deadpool movie,” says Reynolds. “Four years ago, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox, and it never got made.” Reynolds continues, “Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.”
This is not Reynold’s first foray into a Deadpool Christmas film. In 2018, a holiday-themed and sanitized version of Deadpool 2 was released, called Once Upon A Deadpool, which had a limited release after the original version hit theaters.
Reynolds, Reese, and Wernick are working on the third Deadpool movie, which currently has a November 8, 2024 release date. The next film in the franchise is set to integrate Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, recently spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about how the next installment will expand on the previous two films.
“How do we elevate it in the way we’ve been able to with Civil War and Infinity War and Ragnarok?” said Feige. “It’s very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show.”
