Ryan Reynolds May Join ‘The Rosie Project’

Remember The Rosie Project? Based on Graeme Simsion’s novel, the adaptation is over at Sony and once had the power team of Oscar nominated director Richard Linklater (Boyhood) and Oscar winning superstar Jennifer Lawrence attached. Lawrence dropped out – she apparently saw greener pastures with the next picture by director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) and Linklater followed suit shortly thereafter. However, the project may be picking up steam again if it’s true that currently Deadpool revived Ryan Reynolds joins the film.

Nothing has been made official and any confirmation will likely depend on when the Deadpool sequel sets up production dates, but according to Deadline, Reynolds may be circling the romantic comedy. Reynolds has already grabbed onto one post-Deadpool plum project – the science fiction film Life starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Demolition) and Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation). That film is also on a Sony charge. Sony stated “any cast speculation at this point is premature.”

The Rosie Project centers around an awkward genetics professor who embarks on a formula for meeting the perfect romantic match. All his science and logic goes out the window, however, upon the arrival of Rosie Jarman, a woman who shouldn’t be his ideal match in the slightest, but still. Simsion scripted the first draft of the screenplay and the (500) Days of Summer team of Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber provided a re-write. Currently, no director has signed on for the film.

We shall stay tuned.
