Ryan Reynolds Gets 3-Year Deal with Fox; ‘Clue’ Movie Inbound

Ryan Reynolds will be able to afford a lot more chimichangas over the next few years, as the Deadpool star has just signed a 3-year first-look deal with 20th Century Fox. A first-look deal means that Reynolds must allow Fox the right of first refusal to produce, finance and/or distribute any of his projects. Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort, will first be looking at creating a new live-action film based on the board game Clue.

As reported by Deadline, Fox is working on signing up Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to adapt the classic board game to the big screen. As you may be aware, Clue was already given the movie treatment in a 1985 cult-classic starring Eileen Brennan and Tim Curry. The murder-mystery-comedy somehow managed a PG rating and kept a light, humorous tone, so it will be interesting to see if Reynolds and company try to keep it family-friendly or if they will go to darker places. It doesn’t get much darker than Colonel Mustard in the Study, with a lead pipe.

Fox is no doubt hoping that Clue is another Deadpool-sized mega-hit for Reynolds, whose star-power rose considerably once his R-rated superhero vehicle made a ridiculous $783 million worldwide at the box office. We’ll see if Reynolds can continue his good fortune when Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18.
