After three years and much public scrutiny, Alec Baldwin’s (Beetlejuice) indie Western Rust will make its world premiere at the Camerimage International Film Festival in Poland this November. This comes in the wake of the tragic on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, known for her work in Archenemy (2020) and The Mad Hatter (2021), which occurred during filming in October 2021.
The Camerimage International Film Festival, an event renowned for its focus on cinematography, announced the inclusion of a panel discussion dedicated to Hutchins’ legacy. Director Joel Souza (Crown Vic), who was injured in the same incident that killed Hutchins, will be present, along with cinematographer Bianca Cline (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On), who stepped in to complete the project.
Festival organizers note that the discussion will cover the challenges of continuing production after Hutchins’ passing and the importance of honoring her artistic vision. Hutchins reportedly hoped to see Rust screened at Camerimage, where she had established ties over her career.
Notably, Alec Baldwin, who stars in and produced Rust, will not be attending the premiere. It remains unclear whether other leading cast members, including Travis Fimmel and Frances Fisher, will be present.
Set against the backdrop of 1880s Wyoming, Rust tells the story of a young boy on the run with his estranged grandfather after a tragic family loss. The Camerimage Film Festival will run from November 16 to 23 in Toruń, Poland, with its full lineup expected in early November.
