With the ambitious task of directing the Marvel Cinematic Universe epic two-part Avengers event, some are curious to see if the Russo brothers plan to do more superhero films like this after Avengers: Endgame. Joe and Anthony Russo recently took part in a Q&A sessions at a special screening for Infinity War, and one of the questions brought up their plans after the second part of Marvel’s big epic is complete. When asked this question, they jokingly stated that they would return to Marvel to direct a movie adaptation of Secret Wars.

The comic arc of Secret Wars was created in the 80’s by Jim Shooter and is known for being almost as big an event as Infinity War. In the series, a character named Beyonder takes many of the iconic Marvel heroes and villains and has them face off in a place called Battleworld. It’s fair to assume that the Russos and Marvel Studios could handle a project like this given their knack for creating movies where beloved characters fight against each other, such as Captain America: Civil War and Thor Ragnarok.
However, there could be some disappointment for some fans as it’s unsure whether key moments from the series would be able to make it on the big screen as a part of the Marvel series. Most notably, Secret Wars introduces Spider-Man’s symbiote suit, which also leads to the character of Venom. Considering that Sony still has the rights to films featuring Venom, and especially now that the Venom movie produced by them is a hit at the box office, it’s doubtful that Sony would be willing to give up that element to Marvel without truckloads of cash involved. Nevertheless, Marvel Studios does have a knack for making changes from comics to film that still tell the story faithfully from their original source material. Whether or not the Russos and Marvel studios follow through with this or if it’s just a fun joke, the possibility of it actually happening would be a sight to behold for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
