While Peter Weir’s 2003 adventure film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World didn’t spawn massive franchise or find a huge amount of success at the box office, it was critically acclaimed and nominated for 10 Oscars. When a user on twitter recently dragged the film for being sleep inducing, the film’s star, Russell Crowe, decided to reply by criticizing the younger generation’s lack of focus.
“That’s the problem with kids these days. No focus,” Crowe posted. “Peter Weirs film is brilliant. An exacting, detail oriented, epic tale of fidelity to Empire & service, regardless of the cost. Incredible cinematography by Russell Boyd & a majestic soundtrack. Definitely an adults movie.”
Crowe’s reply garnered over 100,000 likes, dwarfing the almost 2,000 of the original post. So, while the reply may make Crowe look like a cranky old man yelling at the younger generation, it seems that more Twitter users are in agreement with the Oscar-winning actor.
Crowe is set to star alongside Sam Worthington and Samantha Mathis in the upcoming thriller The Georgetown Project, where he’ll play a troubled actor who begins to unravel during the filming of a horror film. The completed film is expected to come out some time later this year.
