Just like Nathan Caine, Novocaine is feeling no pain as it continues to dominate at the top of Paramount+’s Top 10 Most Watched since it was released onto the platform a few months ago, competing with the likes of Top Gun: Maverick and The Nice Guys.
Jack Quaid, known for his roles in the horror feature Companion and the Prime TV series The Boys, stars as Nathan Caine, “a mild-mannered bank executive who has congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA), meaning he cannot feel pain.” This skill helps when “the girl of his dreams,” played by Amber Midthunder, is captured and Nate has to rely on this quirk to save her. Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (Villains, Significant Other) directed the film with a script from Lars Jacobson,
It shouldn’t be any surprise that Novocaine is dominating the streaming platform, as critics and audiences alike seemingly adored the film. The feature stands as “certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with 81% from critics and 84% on the Popcornmeter. Of course there has already been talk of a sequel for Novocaine due to its impressive performance, and while nothing has been confirmed yet, Quaid has expressed his interest in returning to the role. During a recent interview with ScreenRant, the Scream actor said, “I would love it. There’s so many ideas I have, there’s so many ideas that I know Dan and Bobby have. It’d be really cool. So, I don’t know, we’ll pray to the movie gods to make that happen.”
Hopefully the “movie gods” will make Quaid’s dream come true.
