During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), Actress Rosario Dawson confirmed that she had a role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day that got cut from the film’s final edit. Dawson teased,
I’m going to say … Spider-Man. I even shot a scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out.
Dawson can be inferred to have reprised her role as Claire Temple in the cut scene of Brand New Day. This was a role Dawson played in multiple of the Netflix Marvel series, notably Daredevil and Luke Cage. With the inclusion of this cut role, and Bernthal’s central inclusion as Frank Castle/The Punisher, it’s clear Brand New Day was originally planned to integrate more characters from the Marvel-Netflix era into the modern MCU, continuing the efforts from the recent seasons of Daredevil: Born Again.
Dawson didn’t include a reason why her role got cut in Brand New Day. However, the cut could be for a variety of reasons, such as her being central to a plotline that got cut, or simply to streamline the pacing in the final edit.
For now, fans can await the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is releasing in theaters on July 30th.
