It looks like Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Daniel Brühl (Captain America: Civil War) and Vincent Cassel (Jason Bourne) may be on board for Entebbe, with Jose Padilha directing. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.
Based on true events, the story follows the1976 airplane hijacking by pro-Palestinian Middle Eastern and German hijackers who forced a Paris-bound Air France flight to land in Entebbe, Uganda while they demanded the release of dozens of pro-Palestinian prisoners. The story was captured in a 1977 TV movie, Raid on Entebbe, The screenplay written by Gregory Burke (’71) will look at the events from multiple points of view, including the hijackers, the 248 passengers, Israeli prime ministers Rabin and Peres who were trying together to determine a course of action, the hostage-rescue mission by Israel Defense Forces commandos, as well as the flight crew who refused to leave the hostages behind even when given the opportunity. Pike and Brühl will portray the two German hijackers.
Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing along with Kate Solomon. Liza Chasin is executive producing. Participant Media (Spotlight) is producing and is in negotiations to fully finance.
Pike, who was Oscar-nominated for her starring role in Gone Girl, is currently filming Scott Cooper’s Hostiles. She will next appear in an interracial love story A United Kingdom and World War II thriller HHhH. Brühl recently appeared in Captain America: Civil War. He will co-star opposite Jessica Chastain in The Zookeeper’s Wife and will also be in the J.J. Abrams-produced sci-fi film God Particle.
Entebbe is looking to begin production in October.
