Riz Ahmed may have gotten to join the Star Wars universe, but it came with some unexpected issues. Ahmed shared his account of being hospitalized while Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was still in production.
Ahmed played Bodhi Rook in Gareth Edward’s Rogue One, an Imperial technician who defected from the Empire. Teaming up with the designer of the Death Star, Mad Mikkelsen’s Galen Erso, Rook became a critical player in the Battle of Scarif, helping to get the Death Star plans to the Rebellion.
While talking about what it was that happened, Ahmed said that “something very silent and very intense had happened to me and I wasn’t getting better quickly.”
He explained that the whole situation led him to a strenuous place mentally as well as physically. Hollywood Reporter noted that he said his body simply stopped functioning properly for some time, and finding out what was the problem wasn’t easy.
Throughout the process, Ahmed told Penn Badgley on Podcrushed that it brought him to a critical realization in his life.
He explained that “you become even more acutely aware of everything you have — and a bodily level, on a health level, you realize like, you don’t control anything, man. You don’t control a single thing. You don’t even control your body.”
