The Rocky Horror Picture Show is officially returning to theaters for its 50th anniversary, restored in 4k definition. The movie will also be re-released on home video, but this time on 4k and Blu-ray as well. Originally released as an adaptation of The Rocky Horror Show in 1975, the new 4k restoration of The Rocky Horror Picture Show was restored by Walt Disney Productions. The producer for the film, Lou Adler, was reported as saying,
“When The Rocky Horror Picture Show was first released, no one thought it would be around very long, let alone…50 years. What began as a small, rebellious project has become a global celebration of individuality, community, and creative freedom. This anniversary is a tribute to the fans who kept it alive and kicking all these years.”
Although The Rocky Horror Picture Show depicts Tim Curry in his most known role as Dr. Frank N’Furter in a parody of b-horror films, the cult sensation grew into its notorious releases in theaters which continually celebrate the work. The picture show is known for its over the top acting, catchy cult hit music, and the production designs from its sets to costumes.
Jim Sharman directed the movie who also collaborated on its sequel, Shock Treatment. Currently, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has no known remastered release dates for either theaters or home media.
