In 1955, photojournalist Dennis Stock met young and rising actor James Dean for a profile that would appear in Life Magazine. The photographs produced from their time spent together have since become iconic and portray the enigmatic actor just before his death that same year.
Life, a film by director Anton Corbijn (A Most Wanted Man, The American), chronicles the first meeting between the two men as well as their developing friendship and their adventures in Los Angeles, New York City, and Dean’s hometown in Indiana, while capturing each famous image.
Robert Pattinson (The Rover) and Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) portray Stock and Dean, respectively. The film also features performances by Ben Kingsley (Ghandi) and Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby). Luke Davies (Candy) wrote the screenplay.
The trailer teases DeHaan depicting “Jimmy” based on all the qualities that made him one of Hollywood’s greatest icons – his rebellious nature, cool demeanor, and deep connection to art and culture.
Life does not yet have a U.S. release date, however, it will premiere in the UK on September 26.
