On the heels of the Berlinale premiere of his collaboration with Werner Herzog, Queen of the Desert, actor Robert Pattinson (Water for Elephants) has been cast in the western mystery Brimstone, according to Screen Daily. The film will also star Mia Wasikowska (Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland) as Liz, a woman on the run from her past whomust confront it head on when a mysterious and diabolical preacher arrives (Guy Pearce, Memento). Pattinson will play the role of an outlaw named Samuel.
Game of Thrones actress Carice van Houten rounds out the cast. Writer-director Martin Koolhoven (Winter in Wartime) is helming the project, which will begin shooting in May. Adding Brimstone to the expanding list that already includes Slow West and Jane Got a Gun, the western genre is clearly alive in 2015.
Pattinson will be reuniting with Wasikowska and Pearce for this film. He worked with both actors just this past year – with Wasikowska in David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars and with Pearce in the post-apocalyptic western The Rover. He will next star with Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) in the James Dean film, titled Life, and in Brady Corbet’s (Melancholia) directorial debut, The Childhood of a Leader.
