According to Deadline, Robert Pattinson (Good Time) is set to join the cast of The Lighthouse, which will also star Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project). Writer-director Robert Eggers will helm his second collaboration with RT Features, which produced his award-winning debut feature The Witch. Max Eggers co-wrote the script.
The film is set in early 20th century Nova Scotia and is described as “a fantasy horror story set in the world of old sea-faring myths.” Dafoe will star as a character named Old, a lighthouse keeper, portraying his life as he ages. Pattinson will be in a lead role.
A24, which distributed The Witch, has obtained the international rights to the film and will again distribute in partnership with RT Features. In a statement, A24 said, “we are beyond excited to be partnering again with Rob Eggers, a true visionary and one of the great filmmakers of his generation. This new script blew us away—it creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous, and beautiful all at the same time. We can’t wait to work with Rob and his team, and our partners at RT Features, Parts & Labor, and New Regency, to help bring this story to life.”
RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira and Lourenço Sant’ Anna developed the project with Robert Eggers and are producing alongside Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy, and Youree Henley. Van Hoy enthused the partnership: “I love that we’re getting the band back together again, this time with old friend and new star player Youree Henley. Like The Witch, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” Teixeira referred to Pattinson as “one of the most talented actors working today. We are excited to work with him and Eggers, a singular filmmaker whose unique vision we support. Our collaboration on The Witch was flawless, and we look forward to reuniting along with our partners at A24, Parts & Labor and New Regency.”
Pattinson is fresh off a critically-acclaimed role in Good Time. He starred in Sundance debut Damsel last month, a project directed by both David and Nathan Zellner. He also stars in Claire Denis’ sci-fi thriller High Life, currently in post-production.
The Lighthouse is currently in pre-production.
