Get ready for darker twist on the classic tale with Pinocchio: Unstrung, part of the Twisted Childhood Universe, or the “Poohniverse.” This upcoming film will explore the more sinister aspects of the original story, far beyond what you saw in the Disney version.

Directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, known for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, and produced by Scott Jeffrey under Jagged Edge Productions, the film follows a young boy named James who uncovers his grandfather Geppetto’s deadly secret involving Pinocchio.

Richard Brake, who you might recognize from Barbarian, The Strangers: Chapter 1, or Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell, will play Geppetto. Horror icon Robert Englund, famous for his role as Freddy Krueger in the extensive A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, has also joined the cast in a secret role.

The first look includes some stunning promotional stills and a behind-the-scenes video showcasing an impressive animatronic puppet created by Todd Masters, an Emmy-winning VFX artist behind classics like Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight.

Brake shared his excitement, saying, “Not only is the script dark, twisted, and gory, it’s also at times very funny. Todd Masters and his team have created incredible practical effects. Audiences are in for a crazy ride.”

With a targeted release date in Summer 2025, this film is being distributed by ITN Studios and represented by Premiere Entertainment at the AFM.
